Product Overview from Amazon:  A classic story by Hans Christian Andersen in its original text presented with modern illustrations. The story of how a little bird endures abuse and misery as he was growing up not realizing he would mature into a beautiful swan. It’s a great tale about personal transformation for the better.

Mary’s Review:  This is a lovely Kindle edition of The Ugly Duckling with beautiful color illustrations.  The ugly duckling mistakenly born into the wrong family endures the persecution of everyone including his own brothers and sisters due to his ugly appearance.  He continues to look for a place and someone who will accept and love him for who he is and not for his looks.  This book helps to teach us well that a book should not be judged by it’s cover and beauty comes from within.

I recommend this ebook not only for children 4-8 but to all ages.  There is a lot we could all learn from this story.

About the Author: Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was born in Odense, Denmark to a poor family. He left home as a 14-year-old to seek his fortune at the theatre in Copenhagen. Andersen began writing plays and poetry before he left for Copenhagen, but it was not until 1835 that he published the first of the fairytales that would bring him international renown. Since then, his over 200 fairytales have enjoyed undiminished popularity, providing the basis for favorite American interpretations such as Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

Book Review: Garbage! Monster! Burp!

Product Description from Amazon: A monster at the bottom of a hill eats all of the garbage generated by the town on top of the hill. This provides two important benefits: The monster is happy with plenty to eat and the town stays nice and clean. Unfortunately, as the town grows, so does the amount of garbage the monster must consume. He gets bigger – and he starts burping. This is, as you can probably guess, a bit unsightly and stinky. In the end, the kids figure out how to solve the problem – despite the nasty mayor’s doubts and objections.

Mary’s Review:  Not only is this a cute and delightful book with animated illustrations on every page, but tells a wonderful rhyming story of the love a town’s children has for the town monster.  That’s right folks.  The town has a monster all it’s own that loves the town and saves it.  To find out how, read this delightful little book.I recommend it for all ages, as there is something we can all learn from this story.
Thank you Mr. Watson.
