Book Overview: Did you know that turtles have been around since the time of dinosaurs? Or that pictures of turtles have been found on ancient cave walls? Have you ever seen a turtle that protects itself by being so stinky that other animals don’t try to eat it? What about the turtle that uses a flap in its mouth as a fishing lure?

Mary’s Review: What an exciting fun way to learn!
Even I learned things about turtles I didn’t know.  Turtles are wonderous creatures to say the least but to learn that they can live to be one hundred years old, don’t have teeth, can lay from one egg to one hundred eggs, can weigh hundreds of pounds…WOW!

The photographs are fantastic and educational.

I recommend this book for ages 5-12.

4 stars
Summary From Back of Book: Barbie knows that any day can turn into an exciting adventure.  It all depends on your attitude.  Whether she’s helping one of her sisters tackle a problem or lending a hand to a friend, you can be sure that everyone has a smile in the end!
Girl’s Best Friend: Barbie agrees to let Stacie train a guide-dog puppy, and her little sister does a great job.  But all too soon, Stacie must choose between giving up her beloved pet-and gaining more than she ever thought possible.
Mary’s Review: Stacie is going to meet her best friend Kathy’s grandmother and Kathy just can’t say enough about her.  Her grandmother is so special.  What Stacie can’t understand is why Kathy thinks all the things her grandmother does are special.  Her grandmother did all the same things.  So what?  Why was Kathy so excited for Stacie to meet her grandmother.  When Stacie meets Kathy’s grandmother, she realizes that she is blind and she has a special friend of her own…a guide-dog.   Stacie decided that she wanted to train a guide-puppy, but did not realize all the hard work that would go into it.  She convienced her sister Barbie to let her do it.  She immediately fell in love with Sandy a Golden Retriever puppy.  So much so that she didn’t want to give him back.
This is the story of the unconditional love between a puppy and little girl, the desire to give the gift of freedom to someone less fortunate and to serve others in the purest way.  See what Stacie learns from this experience and the unexpected surprise twist at the end.
Bright colorful pictures will  definetly keep the children’s interested.
I recommend this book for ages 4 and up.

Book Overview: After her mother dies, Lydia must go live with Aunt Beth, Uncle Mick and her three awful cousins on a farm in the middle of nowhere where magic never happens. But all that is changed by a thunderstorm. After lightning strikes the old oak tree in the pasture, Lydia finds a dazed little fairy in the soggy leaves and twigs underneath the tree. When the awful cousins get their hands on Lydia’s fairy, it’s up to her to figure out a way to send it back to Fairyland. Everyone knows that helping a fairy brings good luck. And Lydia’s luck is about to change!
Mary’s Review: What a wonderful story!  Even if I am 60, it left me wishing there was more.
Sweet Lydia learns that miracles do happen.  She learns that family love is unconditional.  That you can forgive those that hurt you and that you can make friends when you least expect it.
Fairies?  Why not?  Lydia discovers one when she is sent to live with her Aunt Beth and Uncle Mick after her mother dies.  Her life changes drastically.  She goes from city life to farm life.  All she wants is to go back and live with Michael, the man she considers her father. He loved her and her mother.  She was what they considered a family, not what her Aunt Beth’s family was.  Once finding the fairy, she learned that certain fairies could grant wishes.  Was this one of them?  She had a wish but had to keep it to herself or else it wouldn’t come true.  What was her wish?  Would the fairy grant it?
I recommend this book for ages 8 and up.
